Backstory

With great headcount comes great responsibility. Job creation is the prime focus at Quess Corp, and when you are India’s second-largest private sector company by headcount, your scale of impact transcends many boundaries. Ajit Isaac Foundation owes its origin to co-founder Ajit Isaac’s quest to create sustainable livelihoods and enable the underprivileged to break the cycle of poverty. With the firm belief that good education imparts the right skills, Ajit encouraged Careworks Foundation (now Quess Foundation) at Quess Corp.

The children supported by the foundation have the potential to become doctors, engineers, lawyers, and accountants and lift entire communities upward. Along with access to quality education, good health can also facilitate a level playing field. If you nurture a child’s health from the neonatal stage, you will likely build a healthy population. Driven by that thought, co-founders Ajit and Sarah Isaac have championed a number of initiatives on the healthcare front.

Inspiration

Parents play a crucial role in a child’s life by providing emotional support and guidance and passing on their value system, which helps shape the child’s identity and worldview.

Ajit and Sarah Isaac’s parents had a great influence on them when they were growing up. As a church-going family, Ajit learned about the principle of tithe early on. While his mother instilled discipline and work ethic, his father imbibed in him generosity and the importance of giving back to society. For Ajit’s father, Ambat Abraham Ithapiri, integrity, frugality, and generosity were intertwined. His father’s prudence and ethical standards continue to inspire and guide Ajit even today.

His mother, Thankamma Ithapiri, was an equally strong personality, ever willing to help those in need. Even though gregarious by nature, she was very measured about how she went about her life and had a method to everything she did. Alongside her methodical approach, it’s likely that Ajit picked up his deep interest in music from his mother. Thankamma embodied the dictum—act such that your action is an example for others.

For Sarah, her father, Verghese Kovoor, and mother, Dr. Lily Kovoor, inspired her to engage in community service and give back to society.

Founders

Ajit Isaac

Ajit Isaac is a first generation entrepreneur and the driving force behind India’s largest business services provider – Quess Corp. A nominee of the India Forbes Leadership Award and voted as the finalist in the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year award, Mr. Isaac serves as the chairman of the organization. He built two of India’s largest human resource companies—People One Consulting (acquired by Adecco Group) and Quess Corp, which went public in July 2016 with a record-breaking IPO oversubscription of 144X.

A philanthropist at heart, Mr. Isaac set up Careworks Foundation and the Ajit Isaac Foundation to positively impact the healthcare, livelihood, and opportunities for the marginalized sections of society. Mr. Isaac holds a Master’s from the Madras University and is a British Chevening Scholar from the University of Leeds, UK. In addition to being a distinguished Founder Trustee of Ashoka University, he also serves on the Board of Governors of St. Joseph’s University at Bangalore.

Sarah Isaac

Sarah Isaac, hailing from the vibrant city of Jamshedpur in Bihar, embarked on a diverse journey that encompasses both career and personal pursuits. With a background in commerce, she earned her B.Com and pursued ICWA, kick starting her professional life at Wyeth Lederle Pharmaceuticals in Mumbai. However, her priorities shifted after the birth of her daughter, Tanya, as she devoted herself to nurturing her family and home. Beyond her role as a dedicated mother and homemaker, Sarah found fulfilment in her interests, including yoga, swimming, and exploring the world through travel. Demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit, she also established Studio 34, a bespoke boutique in Bengaluru.

Tanya Isaac

Tanya Isaac, was born in the bustling city of Mumbai and spent her formative years in the vibrant city of Bengaluru. Her career and educational journey reflect a deep commitment to addressing critical issues at the intersection of environmental health and climate change.

With a solid foundation in public health, Tanya’s academic journey began at Tulane University, where she graduated as a Newcomb Scholar with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and Psychology. This educational background provided her with a multidisciplinary perspective.

She went on to achieve a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health Sciences with a specialization in Climate and Health from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, earning the distinction of being a Tow Doctoral Scholar. This advanced degree equipped her with the expertise necessary to delve into the complex interplay between climate change and public health.

Tanya’s professional journey is marked by six years of dedicated research experience in the field of public health. Her commitment to making a difference led her to collaborate with USAID, where she performed evaluations for water and sanitation programs as well as food for peace initiatives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her contributions in these areas directly impacted the lives of those in vulnerable communities, addressing critical issues of access to clean water, sanitation, and food security.

During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tanya lent her expertise to healthcare strengthening efforts in India. In her most recent role, she spent a year at Ernst & Young’s Government Consulting arm, where she has focused on project implementation and policy research in the realm of urban sanitation. Her work in the state of Odisha underscores her commitment to finding practical solutions to pressing public health challenges, particularly in urban environments where sanitation plays a crucial role in overall well-being.
