Project Mercy owes its existence to a small family group with the intention of building and donating five houses to the poor in the nearby villages of Bangalore. Gradually, more friends who wanted to share their good fortune with the poor and needy joined the group. Today the group has 40 members and over the past two and half years, they have constructed and handed over 35 houses to the poor. The Isaac Family Foundation has provided financing support for nine so far.
Depending on the family size, the house varies from 250 to 500 square feet. The walls are made of brick or concrete blocks, the floor is either cement or ceramic tiled and the roof has aluminium sheeting. Each house has a toilet as well as electrical lighting.
Beneficiaries are shortlisted based on the recommendation of the respective NGO or the missions working in the village. A site visit is always done to ensure that the need is genuine. Once the project is sanctioned, the supervision and progress is done by the respective NGO.
Project Mercy also supports the following:- Tuitions for poor students in the villages around Bangalore
- Financing of hospitalisation of poor patients in government or mission hospitals
- Education of meritorious but poor students in schools and degree colleges
- Provision of monthly ration kits to needy old and weak persons in villages
